The Baby Boomer Body Book: The Complete Health Reference for Our Generation
Baby boomers have, since their famously experimental and exploratory youths, been a body-conscious demographic. Health is one of their biggest concerns, and popular trends like yoga and pilates have encouraged them to become more aware of a relationship between mind and body.

Now that they're aging, boomers are encountering a new set of body-related occurrences. New aches, pains, and surprises leave mature adults with many questions – what are they experiencing? What should they worry about? How can they best preserve their health into old age?

In this lively and illuminating book, Brian Peck, M.D. catalogs and explains a range of typical baby-boomer health concerns in simple language, describing what's normal, diagnosis of disorders, anatomy, forms of treatment, medications and useful exercises. Case studies, illustrations and cute chapter titles make the read fun, even if the problems discussed can be less than rollicking. In fact, the reader may well enjoy parts that don't apply to him and her, so great is the entertainment value of Peck's prose.

The book also devotes considerable space to health-related subjects beyond disease and disorder – vitamin supplements, exercise, and body image are treated with the same refreshingly light-hearted approach. Information on additional resources is given for most topics, including relevant web sites. If a question or concern isn't covered in the book, chances are Peck can direct you to a place where you can find what you're after.

The guide's 32 chapters are divided into problems common to men and women. Topics covered include: neck, back and knee pain; hair loss; memory loss; periodontal disease; sleep disorders; diminished libido; digestive complaints; menopause-related concerns and erectile dysfunction.

This is the first hands-on, how-to, one-stop book answering the needs of aging boomers in the realm of health. Peck calls helping people through life's stages "the doctor's all-consuming task," and he sets out to educate people of his generation about what they should be doing. Just as important as treating ailments, of course, is informing people on the practices and behaviors that will help them maintain optimum health. Healthcare professionals should also take note of Peck's well-informed yet good-humored and sympathetic tone. Research has shown that this kind of human touch, combined with knowledge, is exactly what they seek in relationships with care providers. This book can therefore serve as a reference in many ways.
