The New Retirement: The Ultimate Guide to the Rest of Your Life
If someone hadn't written this book, there's a sense it would have had to write itself. As the baby boomers near sixty, all the buzz is about their crazy, radical ideas of retirement: that it doesn't have to mean an end to working, for starters, and that it should certainly be a whole lot more than an easing gently into quiet old age.

But such notions aren't much good without practical information on how to realize them. Enter The New Retirement , a guide to planning your dream retirement, brought forth by two former teachers who now run seminars through their own company, Retirement Living A to Z.

Clearly written and easy to digest in whole or in part, the book incorporates numerous worksheets, checklists and forms to help the reader get a handle on all aspects of retirement, from personal aspirations to proper financial planning. The first two chapters ask what criteria can be used to evaluate relative quality of retirement living, and discuss reprogramming one's time to achieve quality as defined herein. Chapters 3 and 4 consider travel, concepts of home and how the two interrelate. Subsequent chapters present recommendations for retirement locales in the U.S. and abroad, managing taxes and finance, and thinking about niche lifestyles. One chapter is devoted to what in means to remain youthful.

The book is a thoughtful, penetrating and thorough look at how retirement can be made more rewarding and what baby boomers can do right now to prepare for it. Since its initial release last year it's been very enthusiastically received by its target demographic, and understandably so, since it represents a kind of one-stop shop for all the basic informational resources soon-to-be retirees will want. As they begin to actively plan their retirements, the future years will seem more real to "dream retirement" candidates. Thus there is a very powerful psychological motivation pushing pre-retirement boomers towards any such practical planning tools.

The book is also a useful orientating device for businesspeople and marketers looking to exploit new styles of retirement living. Its commentary covers all the biggest retirement questions – when is the right time; should one relocate, and to where; how can money be made to last; what are some of the top leisure and working options? As such, it provides a perfect starting point for professionals seeking an entry point to understanding the concerns of these new, trend-setting retirees.
